Associate in Web Application Development

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The rise in the Internet as a major global communication channel creates management problems for organizations. Businesses, government agencies, and non-profit organizations must all decide how an Internet presence will further their missions. Many will conclude that the Internet’s extraordinary array of inexpensive global communication and information resources make it an indispensable part of modern organization.

Developing Internet Applications has therefore become a sought after profession in the business industry. Thus, a program that would provide application developers with everything they need to understand and build web-based applications should be included in the line up of program offerings available at AMA Computer Learning Center.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Associate Degree in Web Applications Development is a 2-year ladderized curriculum which offers students the opportunity to become highly-skilled web applications developers as they advance from one certification level to another. At the end of the first two (2) semesters, the students are already given a Certificate in Web Applications Development upon acquiring foundation knowledge and skills in web development. Advancing further into the next two (2) semesters, a Diploma in Web Applications Development is given upon acquiring intermediate knowledge and skills in the trade. The last two (2) semesters consist of advanced topics in web development together with industry integration through a practicum course and an undertaking of a special project as an application of all the theories learned thereby ensuring competence in the field of web applications development.

The program contents provide a clear and concise overview of the many client and server technologies available. For each technology, the course highlights what the technology can do and any benefits or disadvantages it gives. By providing both positioning information and the necessary information to get up and going with these technologies, students will be able to quickly determine which technology is required for a particular application and then start immediately with application development.

The program covers the main Internet technologies including basic and advanced html, CGI, JavaScript, Flash MX, PDF, Java, JSP, ASP, CSS, XML and database access technologies. It also outlines the features leading web tools offer to support these technologies. Web tools covered include Cold Fusion, Dreamweaver, JBuilder, JRun and WebLogic Server.
